Remembering Bruce Clark

August 17, 1953 - November 7, 2008

Bruce came to the Serenity House for Men on February 20, 2006. It wasn’t long before he advanced to the position of House Manager.

I soon discovered that Bruce was a man who took his recovery seriously and was not immune from the pain and difficulties that come with sobriety. Recovery can create its own kind of sorrow when we are confronted with the wreckage our addiction has caused in the lives of others, wreckage that we can not “undo” simply because we are no longer using. Bruce was a man of courage, who was willing to grieve the past and yet, embrace the reality of today.

But Bruce was also a man of great humor. A friend reminded me of the way Bruce could just give a look, and make us laugh. He was a man of great insight – he could always see through the self-denials and rationalizations of others. He could tell when any of the guys were ‘up to something’ or manipulating the system.

Bruce was also a man of faith. He wasn’t all that interested in what I call, ‘congregational life’, but he loved God deeply and knew that God loved him. Bruce was very aware of his limitations as a human being. Bruce was not perfect, and he knew it. Yet he did strive to do the right thing as best he could – not out of any fear of God, but from his love for God and others.

The Resurrection Power Ministry has lost a VERY GIFTED teammate and fellow servant. I have lost a good friend and confidant. Bruce will be sadly missed by all.
